Question:

Screaming PS belt?

I have a 2001 Hyundai Excel 1.6 l. I recently had the alternator belt broke, its was replaced and all looked good. I few days later the car started screaming. I appears to be coming from the power steering belt. We replaced that belt and screaming still continues, the car does have power steering and it does not appear to be leaking fluid. We have tried making the belts tighter and looser but the screaming continues.

Do you think the PS unit is bad?

  1. Try replacing the battery with one from another car. I have this feeling the battery might be bad. I had the same situation a while back and was surprised when it stopped after I replaced the battery. Good luck!

  2. try belt dressing first. It is a penetrating oil specifically designed for belts.
