Question:

Screeching brake pads already??

I changed my pads in November of 2007, it's now August 2008. My brake pads have been screeching for a while now. I'm guessing that it's the metal indicator that's exposed when the pad wears down. Is this too soon?? If it is, what could cause it to wear down so fast?

  1. That would be difficult to say unless you told us how many miles have been driven in that time period and if it is city or highway driving. Also if it has been driven aggressively or not.

It is possible for the brake pads to wear out in 10 months.

  2. You could have worn them out from heavy use, but more likley the pads are glazed over from excessive heat, or they were not installed properly with brake lube, the screeching is the vibrations from the back of the pad to the caliper rubbing. I would pull them off and check for glazing, replace the pads and turn the rotors.

  3. The way you drive could be the cause.

  4. It's probably just brake dust.  have them checked out already.

  5. maybe your hard on brakes. if you drive in town alot, that will wear the pads down quick, stopping and starting.you might have gotten cheap pads. jason could be right also. the noise your hearing could be brake dust. get some brake cleaner and spray them down.

  6. well it is a sign of bad brake pads and really not smart of you to keep driving its just costing more money to fit so what woul dhave cost you 25 buck now could cost you 500..... not hard to replace brake pad or rotors my wife does her own in the drive way...and too soon who know it has a lot to do with how one drive and brakes and if they was checp pads or not in the miles you get with them but really if they been squeaking any time why not jack up the car remove the tire and look takes ten minutes and that could have save your a big wad of money just knowing

  7. Could be many things. Improperly adjusted rear brakes, cheap pads like autozones, caliper slides not lubricated properly, rotors not smooth, caliper sticking, riding the brake (driving two footed).
