Screen goes dark. Hi My laptop screen goes dark minutes after its switched on; I can hear sound

Hi My laptop screen goes dark minutes after its switched on; I can hear sound but only see very pale outline when I hold it up against a window. Its a Toshiba satelite L40-14 N. Thanks for your help
