Question:

Screenplay Editing??

Ok, I've written a screenplay, and I'm still editing it.

From what I understan you have to write it with proper and not natural speech. So I can't say "Wanna go to the park?" It would have to be "Would you like to go to the park with me?"

So I'm almost done with the editing process, but it's not formatted in the proper screenplay format. It's over 20,000 words, and I'm not sure if that's too much or too little??

Where can I go to get help with editing my screenplay? Are there certain professional people I should seek out? Is there a program I should by? And is my screenplay too short?

Thanks a Million to all your answers!!

  1. Today is your lucky day, I can help. First of all you should beat the b*****d that lied to you. When writing speech for a screenplay, it needs to be natural and not proper, unless you actually intend for them to sound that way. As for proper screenplay format, it would take too much time and space to properly explain here, but you are in luck, do a search for Celtx. It is a completely free screenplay editor, all you have to do is import your script into the program and it will automatically convert it into the correct format. As for the length, forget how many words you have typed, after you import your script into Celtx, look at the number of pages you have used. The typical script is between 90-120 pages long. I don't recommend doing up to 120 pages if this is your first script as it is difficult to maintain an audience's interest that long unless you are a talented and experienced writer.

    Good luck.

  2. Listen to The Don. He's right.

  3. Ok, 1stly, you CAN say "wanna go to the park" - it's YOUR screenplay love - you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!! Whoever told you that is a pole! I have millions of "wanna's" & "gonna's" in my movie, mostly from Ediie murphuy & Bette - i mean, could you imagine Murphy saying "would you like to go to the park with me?" Lol! No no no, you can do WHATEVER you want, trust me on that one!!! Too much or too little PANTS - if your Screenplay is accepted in a Studio, believe me, THEY are the one's who'll do the cutting! My God, my movie is about 876,000 words and counting! At the moment, mine is over 539 pages, but I'll have to obviously cut that down! Yes, your Screenplay is DESPERATELY short - unless of course it's a short film. If it's a feature, i really think you need to spice it up a little! Download "Movie Magic Screen Writer" from Cnet.com - it will let you have a 2 day free trial where you'll be able to edit your entire screenplay in a flash!

(Remember to use Font 12 Courier for the screenplay!)
