is there a way to change the welcome screen screensaver from the normal windows xp one?

  2. You need to go to the Control Panel [Start -> Settings -> Control Panel].

    From there, you click on Display. What you see next will depend upon the driver for your video card or motherboard video chip. For my Nvidia GeForce video card there is a tab for Screen Savers.

    Personal opinion: With modern computer monitors there is very little likelihood of burning images into the screen (the original reason for screen savers with early personal computer monitors). And when you are using a screen saver, you are using more energy than when you aren't using a screen saver. The Green choice would be to run your computer without a screen saver and also to set your power monitor settings to turn off your monitor after a reasonable amount of time when you aren't actively using your computer.
