Question:

Script Writing Help Please!?

I have to finish a 10 page script tonight for the morning, I was wanting to put something in to pass the time quickly that I see they use in movies a lot, but I have no idea how to write it or what it's called! It shows a bunch of clips of a person doing something (passing days, months, years) with usually music in the background, what is that called? And if you can, could you explain how to do that please? But just the name would be fine. Thanks!

  1. I believe this is called a montage.

  2. To quote Team America:

"The hours approaching, just give it your best

You've got to reach your prime.

That’s when you need to put yourself to the test,

And show us a passage of time,

We're gonna need a montage (montage)

Oh it takes a montage (montage)

Show a lot of things happing at once,

Remind everyone of what’s going on (what’s going on?)

And with every shot you show a little improvement

To show it all would take to long

    That’s called a montage (montage)

    Oh we want montage (montage)

And anything that we want to go from just a beginner to a pro,

    You need a montage (montage)

Even Rocky had a montage (montage)"

  3. I am by no means an expert but I have read many scripts in my lifetime and mostly I just see "Time Passing" written and then sometimes I am given further direction as to what will be going on during the time passing. Usually it's an actor completing a repetitive task for many days in many different outfits or you see them running around to different areas trying to complete something for a deadline. I hope this helped.
