  1. Well for one thing, hairbrushes and combs split horse hair. If You want the best results, there is a product that you can buy called M-T-G. It works miracles in grooming. Just condition her tail the next time you give her a bath. Then brush it. Her mane and tail will be knot free and strait. Trust me I had the same problem with my Friesian filly. With Friesians you want the most hair possible and brushes and combs pulled her hair out. :)

  2. Lots of ShoSheen! and brush daily.

  3. Wash her main and tail with warm water and a de-tangle shampoo and conditioner for children. While wet spray with liberally show shine. Wait for it to dry, then brush very gently from the bottom up (always hold the hair above where your brushing)

Enjoy tangle free glossy locks =)

  4. Your horse probably has curly hair! It is quite rare, but extremely cute.. Just keep it in some plats to keep it down

  5. Every time you groom damp both mane and tail as you brush with a BODY BRUSH not a hair bursh.  That is too harsh and pulls hairs out - making the mane scruffy.

If she has enough mane, dampen it, divide it into sections and plait her, just long, pigtails loosely to train it over.  Learn to put on a tail bandage and again dampen the tail, not the bandage at the start of a grooming session and remove when you take her out.  I do not recommend bandages over night because they can tighten as they dry and can cause sores, rubbing or other problems, but for a couple of hours a day, it will help.  And frequent brushing GENTLY WITH A BODY BRUSH!

  6. You could always use a conditioner on her mane and tail when bathing her, then spray some laser sheen on them when brushing them.

  7. you should not use a brush too often,, it breaks the hair witch makes it course . I'm a bloke and i spend the time separating the hair with my hands.( a pro show jumper told me this)mane and tail . then i use a conditioner like cowboy magic. or spray on no more knots they work great.

  8. If you live in the South or somewhere equally hot and buggy, the main and tail probably are scruffy because she scratches at them, so try putting more fly spray on regularly.  I wouldn't suggest M-T-G, because it's medicated and extremely greasy, I mean, my mom's been using that on our drafts for years and it hasn't done a thing.  Also, using a brush does break a lot of the hair off, so like the others said, just use your fingers if you have the time.  You might try a human detangler or something, just don't use something silicon based like Show Sheen, because it makes the hair more brittle (using it at shows is fine, but I mean on a regular basis).  Also, if it's a white tail and you're concerned about urine stains, you should be.  My horses are black and white, and urine stains are a real problem, but if you want, try using a diluted bleach solution in a bucket, just dip the tail in for a while then pull it out, but be careful that it's just the ends so the skin of the dock doesn't get damaged.  If it's just showing you're concerned about, they make a kind of spray paint for horses that you can use on the tail, but just be careful because it is very very white, and you want it to look natural.  I understand your problem, because my mare gets dreads in her tail if I even miss a day!

  9. Use conditioner to get them soft and smooth.  The best brush I've found it the Oyster brush but a decent hairbrush seems to work just as well.  My mare has a really thick mane and tail and I comb in a little baby oil after washing them to get them to really shine.  Don't overdo it or she'll look like an oil slick! Hold the tail up to brush then drop just a little at a time, oil it and brush it until it is all done.  Do it whilst the hair is still damp as the oil will secure the water into the hair giving it extra moisture.

    Hope this helps
