Question:

Scrum Half training?

I'm a number 6 but i want to be a scrum half. I need to do quite a lot of training though to get there. I've got virtually unlimited space but no one really to train with. I need training tips for:

1. Passing (off the floor etc.)

2. Sprinting

3. Box kicking

Other general scrum half things you can think of.

  1. decision making!! i know thats pretty hard to train for!! watch some tapes and ask some other players tho!


  2. and start to learn how to shout at, boss about and b*****k your team mates ... a mouthy and verbal scrum half is always a good start.

    you want to build up your stamina and endurance because you will be running from ruck to ruck at quite a quick speed

    and just general strength training, but focus on your upper body, you want to build it up for a good strong pass

  3. for passing off the floor, try passing with like your right hand only to pass left, and  vice versa, this strengthens your wrists. you can also try passing to some wall, the ball will bounce off, annoying i know but hey its harder when you have no one to train with.

    work on accuracy too, try passing to some tree 10, 20, maybe even 30 meters away

    try to make the ball travel flat, or maybe fall just a little bit in the long passes. work on the speed of the ball.

    for box kicking, maybe set up a "ruck" i dunno, use a bush or something, then practice taking the ball out fast and just kicking it way up and over, aim at the place where all 4 seams of the ball up, like the bottom (or top), point the ball in the direction you want the ball to go, so the ball will be almost upright for height....

    then sprints, just work on your explosiveness, since rarely do you have to spring 100 m

    just set up a line, and then another 20 m away, and practice exploding to the other side, work for quick powerful steps then later you can finish the day off with some longer sprints, like 100m and then don't forget to warm down.
