Scuba HP pressure gauge has air bubble inside. Can I fill with kerosine?

Max-air (bauer) scuba fill station has air bubble which causes an error in the reading till the 3000 psi area. At 3200 psi it is accurate as the bleed valve kicks in.

  1. Generally liquid filled gages have silicone in them.  Kero hasn't been used since WW2. I'd have to agree with the other poster that you don't want to "home brew" a patch on your SCUBA gear.   Besides, if its accurate at 1000 psi and below, a couple of divisions at 3000 really doesn't matter, no?

  2. Pressure gauges are sealed and should not ever get bubbles in them.  If there's air in the gauge, there's some possibility the Bourdon tube has a crack in it.

You will spend more time dinking around with getting a bubble out and resealing the gauge than the instrument is worth.  The pressure gauges on a fill station are industry standard parts and you can buy replacements off the shelf.  They're not terribly expensive.  Replace it.

  3. if you fill it with kerosene, make sure to test it for leaks with a lit match before first use.  seriously, roadster had it right, it's scuba... just replace it... your life depends on it

  4. Don't try patching a bad guage.  This is scuba.  A bad guage can kill you.  replace it.
