Scuderia-Ferrari switch focus to setup of their 2012 car – Formula 1 news
Scuderia-Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali has told the media that they have stopped working on their 2011 car and are instead focussing on their 2012 car.
Domenicali added that the team wants a big step in the 2012 season following their performance so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Maranello-based outfit did not have good start in the ongoing season, as their 150° Italia car did not play a supportive role for them.
Other than that, both of the drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were struggling on the sets of hard tyres by Pirelli in the early stages of the season.
The team driver Alonso was back on the grid at the 2011 British Grand Prix, where he successfully won the race for the first time in the season. However, Ferrari are still not able to achieve a race victory since then in the season despite having several
changes and developments in their car.
On the other hand, Ferrari technical director Pat Fry is hopeful the team will take a strong start in the next year with a more competitive package.
Fry said, “We know we have a gap to recover in terms of performance and we need an extra effort to get rid of it: this is one of the main targets of the winter time. Adrian's Red Bulls have been the quickest cars in the last two or three years.”
He went on to mention, “(But) to be honest I do not think this is a man-against-man sport, not at all. It is a very complex sport in which a very talented engineer cannot make everything along as he needs the support of many people to succeed. At the moment,
Red Bull are the reference; our aim is to win, whoever will be our opponents.”
Fry further added that the team’s aim is to win races at the moment. After the 2011 Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari were placed at the third place with 254 points in the constructors’ championship.
Let’s see how they perform in the last six rounds of the ongoing season following their positive Italian Grand Prix weekend.
