Scunthorpe United come back to beat Sheffield United – npower Football League Championship match update
Scunthorpe United beat Sheffield United 3-2 in a Championship encounter at the Glanford Park on Tuesday evening. The Irons made a remarkable comeback to win 3-2 after going two goals down in seven minutes. Both teams still find themselves in the drop zone
and are in serious danger of relegation.
Ian Baraclough named the same starting line-up that played a stalemate draw against Derby County last weekend. Micky Adams made two changes to his side that lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace last weekend. Daniel Bogdanovic and Lee Williamson were replaced by Ched
Evans and Johannes Ertl respectively.
The first half witnessed an electric start to the game. The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when Ched Evans met Richard Creswell’s cross on the volley and fired it past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 for the Blades. Just after the resumption,
Evans won the ball in the midfield and made a blistering run in the box. His shot cannoned into the net off Creswell’s face to make it 2-0 for the visitors just seven minutes into the game. It looked like the visitors will run riot of the host defence, as
Evans forced a splendid save from the host goalkeeper Josh Lillis. The first real chance for the hosts came in the 18th minute, when Joe Garner drilled a shot from Ben Gordon’s cross, but the Sheffield defender made a timely interference to deny
the hosts. Just after the half hour mark, the hosts were awarded a penalty, when Neil Collins made a rash challenge on Garner inside the box. Joe Garner scored the penalty, sending keeper the wrong way to make it 1-2 for the hosts. The game progressed in the
same attacking fashion, and Scunthorpe United levelled just before the half time. Garner squeezed the ball into the bottom right corner after Lee Miller’s free kick into the box. The first half witnessed a thrilling encounter which finished 2-2 at the break.
The second half promised more action, as the hosts looked to complete a remarkable comeback. The visitors came close of taking the lead just after resumption. Bjorn Helge Risse delivered a beautiful cross from the right and Creswell took a shot which was

the hosts. Scunthorpe made a remarkable comeback from what looked like a humiliating defeat after going two goals down in the opening seven minutes. Sheffield looked down and out after squandering a two goal cushion. The visitor’s frustration became apparent
when Lowry was shown a straight red card for a horrendous challenge on Garner. The Irons dominated the game and sealed an astonishing 3-2 result.
Scunthorpe United play Bristol City in their next match on 26th February, while Sheffield United host Derby County the same day.
