Scurry Cup semi-final preview
The Showsec Security Scurry Cup semi-finals will be run on Thursday at Belle Vue. The top three greyhounds from each race will advance to the £3000 final which is scheduled to be raced on 25 November.
Showsec Security Scurry Cup 1st Semi-final
In trap one is Ballymac Ace. He was an even odds favourite in the opening round heat, and finished in second place, 1½ lengths behind Magna Buddy. Before the Scurry Cup he had won three out of four races.
Slick City finished second in his opening round heat, 4¼ lengths behind Rotar Wing. He’s also finished in the top two in his past four races. He’ll go from trap two.
Jimmy Lollie was the 4-9 race favourite in his opening round heat, and won that race by 2½ lengths over Shams Star. His trainer is Seamus Cahill, who is looking to pick up a win in the Scurry Cup with Lillie or Really Lethal, who will run in the second semi-final.
Lollie will race from trap three.
In trap four is Ping The Lids, a long-shot that managed to finish in third in the first round, earning a spot in the semi-finals. Before the Scurry Cup, Lids had won two out of three A1 races, and finished second in the other.
Magna Buddy will race from trap five. He finished first in his first heat, the same heat as Lids and Ballymac Ace. That race was only the second race in his past 13 in which he was not the favourite.
The sixth trap will see Shale Dimitar try to earn a spot in the final. He was a 10-1 long-shot in the first round, and finished in third place to earn his spot in this race. The field is much tougher in this semi-final, and he’ll probably not make an appearance
in the final.
Best bet: Ping The Lids could see interesting odds in this race. He’s not the best in this group, but he’s good enough to win, and the odds could make betting on him worth taking the chance.
Showsec Security Scurry Cup 2nd Semi-final
Rotar Wing will race from trap two in the second semi-final. He won his heat in the first round will little difficulty, and will look to repeat that in this race.
With his win in the first round, Gone to Carrhue has now won an incredible six races in a row. He’ll race from trap three.
Cahill’s Really Lethal will race from trap three in this one. He finished third in the first round, 2½ lengths behind Carrhue, and a head behind the second place finisher, Blood Of Kings. He’ll be a long-shot in this race.
Shams Star took second in his first Scurry Cup heat, as a 10-1 long-shot. He’ll have a difficult time getting into the top three in this race. He’ll race from trap five.
Trap six will house Love Knight, who took third in his first round heat behind Shams and Lollie. In the three races he participated in before that third place finish, Knight had two last place finishes and a win.
Best Bet: Rotar Wing and Gone to Carrhue are sure to finish one and two in this race, but in which order is tough to pick. Hedge your bets and try them both.
