  1. well, if you own a horse, then you should be able to canter it. I'm guessing that since you have a horse you are experianced. Why should cantering be an issue?

EDIT: Oh, then next time he canters pull back and stop him, it might be fun but I would wait until you know how to canter, to canter!

  2. Well, since you didn't ask him for it, you shouldn't let him do it. Bring him back to the gait you were working at. Otherwise, he'll learn it's okay to just randomly canter.

Do you have a trainer/instructor? You ought to have someone who knows how to canter show you how and guide you through it. I'm not going to tell you how to cue him to canter, because I know what happens when people try cantering alone without knowing what they are doing.

Before you try riding him at the canter, longe him a little bit at the canter. That way you get a good idea of the canter and learn about leads.

The first time I cantered was on a longe line. It's harder on the longe line, but really helps with your balance when you get off of it and canter on rein.

  3. Your horse should only canter if you ask him too. You need to be the leader when your in the saddle and also on the ground. I know how you feel about cantering though....It the best feeling EVER. But once the feel comfortable on your horse then YOU ask him to canter. Don't let him be the one to make decisions.

Have fun with all of your horsey adventures and God Bless!

  4. okay, if i were you i would take it easy!!! only about eight strides every time. just sit in the saddle and move your but with the horse, kinda like a rocking motion. THen when you know that it is good, go a little longer. I learned to jump by myself and i am doing fine. so here are some cantering videos to show you how to sit, just incase you dont know how to.

OH AND KEEP OUR HANDS LOW, I ALWAYS USE TO PUT MY HANDS EVERY WHERE.   good luck

  5. Not trying ot be rude, but maybe you should learn how to ride before you lease a horse. Don't go for it, you will wreck the horse

  6. Okay. Well, the second golden rule of horse riding is "The horse doesn't do anything you didn't tell him too." So if he cantered and u didn't tell him to, he gets a good smack!

Sorry, no offense, but i dont think u should lease a horse without at least knowing how to canter.

    And one more thing.

Cantering might be fun, but it might be even better to wait to learn how to do it.

    have fun!

  7. im guessing you've never cantered before?

Not trying to be mean but why do you have a horse if you've never cantered before?

edit: I would not let him canter if you dont know how to ride yet and w/o someone there. You should not have let him go into the canter without asking for it as well.

  8. WHAT is this?    sdjghdskgh   & what was the purpose of putting this gibberish in your question?

Next, what do you mean how can you be ready if he does is again?  YOU are the rider & YOU are SUPPOSE to be in control.  If you want the horse to canter, ask the horse to canter!  What have you been doing sitting on him waiting for him to decide to do something?

  9. Go for it. If you canter early, it might show the owner that you are very serious about horseback riding and LOVE  it.

EDIT: I just thought of something. I wouldnt let him canter just randomply with you. Next time he does it, pull him back to a trot of whatever you were doing, because that can teach him he can just canter whenever he pleases. If you really must canter at that very moment, pull him back to whatever you were doing and make him do that for a little while. Then, in a different place in the ring, let him canter, but only if you asked.

    Happy riding!

  10. well its good that u like cantering, but letting the horse canter at any time is gonna teach him bad habits! Learn how to canter correctly before you canter at all!
