Se Ri Pak eager to defend her title at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail – Golf news
South Korean Se Ri Pak is eager to tee off at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail as the Avnet Classic commences in Alabama.
She won the Bell Micro Classic in the same trail on the Magnolia Grove’s Crossing Course. Along with Pak, 143 other players will tee off as the newly named Avnet LPGA Classic starts.
Pak defeated Suzann Pettersen and Brittany Lincicome in a three-way sudden death playoff in 2010. Eager to defend her title, Se Ri Pak is really excited and confident to start playing. She has a total of 42 under par in her previous appearances here. In
2010, she posted an amazing 13 under par before she was triumphant in the playoff.
“Everyone asks why you're so good on that golf course,” Pak said. “I don't exactly know why my game suits this golf course. ... This course, you have to think how this shot, next shot, how to make it good, make sure which shot is easier.”
Pak belongs to South Korea and turned professional in 1996. Having been on the Tour for a long time now, Pak has surely achieved a lot.
Out of the top ten players in the Rolex Rankings, nine would be on the course. Also playing in the tournament is the 16-year-old Alexis Thompson. Being a talented golfer, young Thompson is also eager to tee off in her first professional LGPA tournament
in 2011.
World number one Yani Tseng will also be there but does not have as much ease as Pak on the course. The player tied for 33rd place in 2010 and for 35th in 2008. She accepts that she is not very good on this course. However, the confidence
is not lacking in the Taiwanese player as she practiced on the course before the start of the tournament.
Five other previous winners will also be playing including winner of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Stacy Lewis. After a charismatic major win, Lewis is surely looking forward to the weekend.
With so many talented players on board, this tournament will surely be an interesting one to follow.
