Se Ri Pak finishes as top South Korean at LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012
South Korean Se Ri Pak finished as one of the star performers at LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012. She registered an overall score of 207 to finish fourth on the leaderboard.
Pak was happy to be back at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, as she was sure that the local crowd support would be enough to keep her going.
When it came time to face battle-hardened rivals, such as current world number one Yani Tseng and Na Yeon Choi, she held her ground and did what her fans expected her to do.
Pak started the first round with heaps of enthusiasm as she carded a 70. But her performance was even better in the second round of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament as she boosted her position by recording a 67.
Commentators said that Pak managed to give a much-need boost to her position in the second round, which could have helped her surge past the top two performers Scottish Catriona Matthew and Norwegian Suzann Pettersen.
The South Korean star displayed a decent performance on Sunday, but shooting a 70 did not warrant a top finish.
On the other hand, Pettersen remained the strongest contender till the final round, with Matthew brining her total score to a 205—sharing the same position with the Norwegian golfer, which forced them both to move into playoff.
Pak, despite making some mistakes, was not fazed by other contenders troubling her in front of South Korean crowd at Incheon.
“Yesterday was really good, though, a couple shots here and there I missed because ‑‑ one double, that's a big number,” the LPGA titan said of her performance in the second round on Saturday.
“But other than that, it wasn't really different yesterday and today. I make more consistency. I don't think I missed shots".
"Some, but it's not as bad as yesterday.  But missed some putts, and I don't have any bogeys,” added Pak, who, like any other South Korean contender, enjoyed massive support for being a local.
“I'd say this week is bigger fans than usual, I think, the last couple years.  It was pretty good to see them out there today. Of course it gives me a lot of excitement”.
