Se Ri Pak grabs the top spot in the second round of LPGA Championship 2012
South Korean Se Ri Pak displayed a stunning performance in the second round of the Wegmans LPGA Classic 2012, as she fired a 71 to grab a solo lead.
The tournament is being played at Locust Hill Country Club, New York, with strong LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars in the roster.
However, Pak did not appear to be under pressure despite the fearsome field. She was standing tied for 4th at the end of the opening round, but romped to the top after she made a decent 71.
She opened the round in an impressive style and parred the first six holes. She, however, faltered on the difficult par-3 7th, but regained composure.
On the back nine, Pak’ performance was almost flawless, as she scored three birdies and one bogey.
Analysts said that the rising star played a very good game, which is evident from her jumping to the top spot. However, they pointed out that the next two rounds are likely to stage an even tougher battle, as big names have also improved their positions
in the second round.
Speaking to the media about how she outclassed competent rivals, the South Korean prodigy said that she never thought that she would be able to beat LPGA giants.
She went on to say that she is keeping a close eye on other players’ advances and will try to ramp up pressure by avoiding making too many bogeys.
The weather conditions remained favourable most of the day, but strong gusts of winds whipped through the course intermittently.
“I'm happy to be back here in this seat because that means I'm doing a good round. It was. Before teeing off, we know it's a lot tougher because we could see the wind blowing,” Pak said.
The second-round leader pointed out that she likes the course, but it is a little hard to play due to tricky holes.
“This golf course is a lot harder than the last couple of years. It's always hard. But they narrowed the fairways. It actually affects it a lot, this golf course. We got a couple of rains, actually get courses little longer”.
