Se Ri Pak happy with performance at US Women’s Open 2012
South Korean Se Ri Pak posted an overall 292 in the US Women’s Open 2012 to stand tied for the ninth position, along with four other LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Pak, who was considered as one of the strongest stars in the field of the US Women’s Open 2012, did her best on the course Blackwolf Run, Kohler, and won over the local crowd.
The South Korean star fought hard against titans like American Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, current world number one Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Sandra Gal, Ai Miyazato, Shanshan Feng, Brittany Lang, Diana Luna, Azahara Munoz, Vicky Hurst, Jessica Korda, and Lydia Ko.
Analysts said that the roster was stronger than most of the contenders had anticipated. However, Pak seemed to be completely fired up and she made it hard for rivals to play comfortably.
The 34-year-old golfer has been seeking to record a victory since she stole the show at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic in 2010. Although she has been putting her best foot forward since her last LPGA triumph, she still has not been able to regain her lost glory.
Pak rose to fame in 1998 when she won her first major title at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship. Having grabbed five major victories so far, the South Korean prodigy ranks among the most influential female golfers of their times.
Pak let her fans see her best game on Sunday, as she parred the first three holes. She cheered the spectators when she reeled off a birdie on the par-4 4th hole.
The LPGA star, however, faltered on the 5th hole as she recorded a bogey after failing to control the ball properly.
Despite making some mistakes in the final round, Pak managed to post 71.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the ambitious golfer said that she was surprised by Na Yeon Choi’s performance, who won the tournament after shooting an overall 281.
“I know she's focused, and I'm trying to give her a little look back, but I don't want her to lose her focus, so I'm trying to not give her look. But you know, she's already been there many times,” Pak said.
“She won five times already, and of course, this is a little different than a regular event, but of course, having a lot of pressure herself, but she's good enough to be out there, hung in there”.
