Sea Moon awaits the rider for the Arc
With the line-up of the 2012 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe minus the 2011 winning filly, Danedream, and the third position holder, Snow Fairy, the chances for the rest of the contestants have taken a rise. The most reliant right now is the Aidan O’Brien trained,
Camelot, while Nathaniel is not far back on the preference list.
Danedream took off due to the potential swamp fever:
"We are the biggest training centre in Germany and one horse has tested positive for Equine Infectious Anaemia [swamp fever].”
"For three months we are now in quarantine; no horses can come into the track, and no horses can come out.”
The nightmare and its timing for the stable of Danedream could not have been worse.
Resorting to a suitable rider for the Triple Crown contender will make things easy and simple for the Aidan O’Brien string.
Grimthorpe said: "When we've made a final decision we'll let everyone know. It's on the agenda and at the moment we're heading that way.
"As long as things keep going as they are, hopefully we'll be there."
"I'm waiting to hear more news, but hopefully he'll be on board (Sea Moon)."
Sea Moon has been confirmed for the most prestigious French race at Longchamp. The Sir Michael Stoute trained, Sea Moon, ended fifth in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July.
Just as there is no decided rider for the Derby winner, Camelot, Sea Moon faces the same dilemma with the jockey, Ryan Moore. After an injury in August, the return of the jockey for the Arc is highly doubtful.
The level of competition will become a hard one for the Sir Michael Stoute trained to deal with, and the trip can turn out to be a nightmare without the guidance of someone worthwhile and experienced.
Even though the competition has skimmed down due to the absence of two prime threats, Danedream and Snow Fairy, Sea Moon will have to put in more effort than any other entry in the field in order to at least get placed in the event. Fifth in the King George
needs to be notched up to at least third or second position in the Arc.
