  1. Knowing how to swim is a big advantage;  it will make the experience safer and you will be more confident and probably have a better experience.  However, wearing a life jacket (which is essential anyway) will help mitigate any weakness in your swim skills and should help with your confidence level.  The Guides/Counselors should have proper training and will be able to help you out a lot.

Your height and weight should make little difference.  Once you learn an efficient paddle stroke you will find that moving and manuevering the boat is very easy.  You do not have to be especially strong.

The Kayaks will likely be double boats, or possibly solo boats as well.  Double boats are great unless you get a really lame partner!  It does take communication and coordination to do a double kayak well.  It's actually easier, in my opinion, to learn in a solo boat.

I've done both river and ocean kayaking and find it an immensely fun and satistfying sport.  I am not a 'natural athlete' myself, and though I tried a lot of different sports never was very good at any.  Until I tried canoeing and kayaking, and then I found something I really clicked with.  You do it at your own pace and for your own pleasure;  what a great feeling!  I'm sure you'll have a great time.  With good instructors you'll likely catch on in no time!  Have fun!

  2. I can't imagine a camp turning you loose in the open ocean without some instruction and practice in a pond or cove first. I expect they will teach you some basic padle strokes,  how to wet exit and how to get back in the boat afterward.  Kayaking doesn't take much strength so your size won't be an issue.  You will probably each be in your own boat but they might have double kayaks.
