Seabass’ trainer concerned over Kempton conditions – Horseracing Update
Seabass’s trainer, Ted Walsh, has expressed grave concerns about the rapidly drying conditions of Kempton course where his talented black gelding is scheduled to run in Racing Plus Chase on Saturday, February 25.
The champion trainer claims that if this situation continues by the coming couple of days, he will have to bar Seabass from contesting.
With a fabulous success streak of 6 victories in a row, the nine-year-old gelding is set to run against 46 competitors. It will be a Grade 3 race of 3m distance. So far, only 15 entries have been confirmed.
According to Walsh, the dry running condition does not augur well for his pupil and, therefore, he is still undecided whether to let him run or not.
Apart from Racing Plus Chase, Seabass has two more options during the two weekends. He can either participate in Bobbyjo Chase on Saturday or show his guts in Paddypower.Com Chase on Sunday.
While speaking to the media yesterday, the legendary trainer said, “It all depends on the weather. They are calling the ground good at Kempton and are even talking about watering if the rain doesn't come, which tells me it is pretty quick - that wouldn't
suit our horse.”
“We've also got him at Fairyhouse and Naas and we'll just see which way the weather is going later in the week.”
Despite Walsh’ reservation, the Kempton course clerk, Barney Clifford, claims that the ground will get enough moisture by Saturday as some showers are expected within a day or two.
He told, “There is the possibility of us getting a couple of millimetres of rain on Wednesday evening, so we'll see if that materialises and go from there, but it would be nice.”
By winning his last six races in a row, Seabass has established himself as a potential runner for every event. Now, his trainer is keen to keep this unbeaten record of the gelding intact at every cost, therefore, he is reluctant to launch him at Kempton.
The Gunners Syndicate-owned gelding started his career on February 11, 2007. He has been at the peak of his game since the very beginning. His total earning to date is £92,236.
