Question:

Seagulls on my property?

I have young seagulls squatting in my garden, closely watched by adults who swoop at me if I go out there. Does anyone have any idea what I can do or how long I can expect them to stay? This is their 5th day now. I've heard that if I try to get rid of them they will remember me and swoop if they see me in the street. Has anyone heard of this?

  1. Open the door and let the cat out, if you have one, otherwise go outside flapping your arms and they will leave. No, seagulls don't remember us - we all look alike to them.

  2. sue them!!

  3. They not only remember you they will tell all the gulls!

  4. You need to get the council to set a reasonable rent for them.

  5. you have to scare them away...

They wont remember you as we all look alike to them as they all look alike to us.

however if they stay there long enough they might make a nest so you have to act fast.

  6. Plan A) Duffel coat, wellies and a mop - Go out there and do battle with the invaders for God, Queen and Country.

Plan B) Hire a chav to cut your lawn. Once he or she gets the smell of Lambrusco in their nostrils the seagulls have no chance.

  7. They'll probably be gone any day now, I take it they're capable of flying.  They won't remember you and stalk you later on!  The parents are swooping on you as they are protecting the youngsters, if you can shoo the youngsters away without being too damaged they'll go elsewhere.  I've always found a hard hat useful in these circumstances . . .

  8. Yeah, we used to have some living on the roof and they'd swoop when we tried to peg the washing out!  It went on for weeks though, I don't remember how long exactly, I think it was two weeks.  Then we fixed a grid on the chimney so they can't make a nest there again... you'll just have to stick it out!
