Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson keeping focus on game against Arizona Cardinals – NFL News
Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback, Tarvaris Jackson, said on Thursday that he is keeping his focus only on the regular season finale against Arizona Cardinals and is not thinking about next season.
Jackson was speaking in the lights of comments made by Seahawks’ coach, Pete Carroll, regarding keeping Jackson as the starting quarterback for next year.
When asked about how he feels after the confidence his coach had shown in him, Jackson was thankful to have the vote of confidence. However, he maintained that things change rapidly in the league.
Jackson is playing his first season with the Seahawks. He has started 13 games while playing 14. He has completed 250 passes of 415 attempts for 2,869 yards while throwing 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
“I’m just trying to finish this season and make sure I focus on this game,” he said.
He added:
“And try (to be) the best I can be for this game. But next year is next year. I’ve got to get healthy and make sure I’m healthy first. The vote of confidence is good, but you know how fast things can change. But I understand that part of the game, and that’s
not going to affect me, period.”
Jackson is concerned more about his health because he suffered a pectoral muscle injury that forced him out of one game earlier in the season.
There were chances that he might have to undergo a surgery after the season to repair the muscle, but he clarified on Thursday that he would not require a surgery.
Meanwhile, Carroll has said that planning for Jackson to start in the next season will not restrict the franchise from hiring new talent in the drafts. According to the coach, the Seahawks might also look to select a quarterback if he meets the requirement.
“Yeah, that’s where we are,” he said about Jackson. “Now, that doesn’t mean that we’re not going to look at the draft really hard and all the opportunities. We’ll always do that at every position.”
Carroll also said that the team needs to work on its offence and defence to come out strong in the next season and get better results.
The Seahawks are out of the playoff race and the game against Cardinals will have reputation and record at stake. The Seahawks have won seven games this season and lost eight. They are ranked second in the National Football Conference (NFC) West division.
