Sealed records in Illinois?

My bf has a misdemeanor on her record from about 7 years ago in illinois and has been sealed. When an employer conducts a background check, does it still show up since it wasnt expunged?

  1. Was he a minor at the time? If he wasn then it  will not show as all juvenile records are sealed when he hit 18.  Chances are, most employers unless it is a higher paying job, will not do a background check.  Be more nervous of Myspace and Facebook pages.


  2. In Adams County, the circut clerk has a website where you can see anyone who has a record ONLY in Adams County.  This included Ordinance violations, traffic violations, divorce cases, order of protections, criminal misdemeanors and felonies, etc...

    Usually the employers don't care if its a misdemeanor...but either way, he should be honest to the employers if he wants the job.

  3. I don't know what "sealed" means in Illinois, but he should go ahead and have it expunged. That way, when he's asked in an application if he has a criminal record, he can accurately respond "no."

  4. If fingerprints are taken, yes. It will always be on FBI records. No fingerprints, there are ways to find it but it is far more difficult.
