  1. Hello Fallon. Sealing a record is usually done for a minor who turns 18. Sealed records are still available to be read, but only under certain conditions by law enforcement and the courts. An employer check will not show any action.

If this is something that occurred as an adult, the proper action would then be an expungement of the record. If this was a misdemeanor, it is fairly simple and can usually be done by yourself. Go to the Clerk of Courts in the jurisdiction of the arrest/conviction and ask for the paperwork needed. Fairly simple to fill out. File it with the fees and you will notified in the mail.

If this was a felony, totally different rules apply. Best advice would be to have a consultation with an attorney within the jurisdiction of the arrest/conviction. He can tell you if you qualify for expungement and if so, he can draw up your petition and submit it to the court in your behalf.

If expunged, the records are erased from any and all public checks ( background checks) and all rights are restored.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

  2. Your records are available to the bank even when sealed.
