we're about to go on a camping trip. we just set up the tent to make sure everything was in order. my dad and i are having an argument about the seam sealer. i bought one that came in a tube, he says that it should be a spray...is there any real difference and what are your preferences?

thanks

  1. The tube kind (or the kind you brush on) is the kind you use initially when you seal a new tent. The tent usually comes with it. You use it on the seams only. The spray stuff is for overall extra water repellancy. It doesn't do much for the seams if they haven't been sealed with the brush on stuff because it won't build up in between the stitches and water will still get in. They are two different things for two different jobs.

I use the tube stuff when I need to, but rarely use the spray on stuff. I'd only use it on a cheap tent that didn't have a good rainfly. I keep my tents in good condition and if pitched properly they repel rain and snow just fine.
