Sean Avery injured yet again, bowed tendon on the right foreleg will keep him out for a year
During the 5-year-old gelding, Sean Avery’s 3 and 4-year-old seasons, he got sidelined for a bowed tendon which made him miss the entire 2010 season, and now the fragile gelding is injured again, and the injury is similar to one that sidelined him then.
This time around, Sean Avery has a bowed tendon in his right foreleg and the injury will force him to sit out the year, and probably the injury he incurred now puts his racing future in doubt.
The injury was detected, when he came out of the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap, and after a week’s time, it was clear that the horse is suffering from a bowed tendon.
The race which gave him the injury was the biggest win of his career. Allen Iwinski trained Sean Avery edged past Trappe Shot to win by a nose in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt on the Saratoga dirt course on 7 August, 2011.
The son of Cherokee Run, out of Latin Lynx by Forest Wildcat, Sean Avery, will go under re-examination of his injury on 1 April, and till then he will be sent to Lynn Boutte’s farm in Ocala, Fla, just to see if the grade 1 winner can resume training.
The racing manager for Black Swan Stable, the stable which owns Sean Avery, John Destefano said, that it is good that the injury was caught early rather than late and he said that the plan is to send him to the farm and re evaluate the situation in six month’s
time.
Prior to the Vanderbilt, Sean Avery recorded 2 wins out of 3 starts in 2011, with one second place finish in the Mr. Prospector at Monmouth Park on 4 July, 2011.
Roaring Lion got the best of Sean Avery when he narrowly defeated the 5-year-old over the distance of 6 furlongs.
Apart from the Vanderbilt win this year, Sean Avery has won the Longfellow Stakes at Monmouth Park dirt on 5 June, before that he was victorious in an Allowance Claimer at Gulfstream Park, both races were at the distance of six furlongs.
