Sean Casey hopes to bring Miracle League Field to Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania
It was always thought unfeasible, but it looks more like a reality as time nears completion. The Baseball Miracle League Field in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania is almost done and only one man needs to be credited
with the progress made on the project. Major League Baseball (MLB) first baseman, Sean Casey has been a professional all his life. Now, he is looking to realize his social cause and make a difference in an area where about 90,000 children are in need of a
place to shine.
Casey and his wife, Mandi, have been looking to contribute their time and energy to something with which they can help the entire society. Children, who require special attention and suffer from various ailments, need a different
kind of playing field to assist them in their outdoor activities. Even though few special baseball fields are present in Pennsylvania for such children, they provide a challenge for parents, who need to commute long hours across cities to reach one of these
places.
The miracle field in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania provides the kind of facility, special children require; however, its rubber surface and constrained facility design allows only few kids to be entertained. Surprisingly, Casey
comes in with his own special field designed to cater children in Upper St. Clair. The former MLB player worked with children diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was studying in the University of Richmond.
"It started off as a great dream of doing that and has really become a reality now," Casey said. "I had a guy once tell me, 'isn’t there one of those in Cranberry?' That's the problem right there. These fields should be everywhere
so these kids have the ability to go out and play and do something and be a part of a team."
Dave Hall, who drives his son, Buddy, to the Miracle League Field in Cranberry Township approves of the plan. It takes him 2 hours to get to the field in Cranberry Township and the new facility being created by Casey and his wife
could serve the purpose Buddy requires.
"It's really important to note how lucky we are to have Sean and Mandi in this region, because we're going to get this done in a timeframe that blows away most timeframes because of Sean's stature and his popularity and his status,"
Hall said. "The presence of Sean and Mandi on this project is essential or else it doesn't get done. It's as simple as that."
