Sean Foley and Hank Haney start a media war over Tiger Woods – Golf updates
A cold war has started between Sean Foley and Hank Haney regarding Tiger Woods and the kind of swing change he has been going through. This battle has spilled over into the media and looks to derail Woods, who has already been through
severe media scrutiny after his personal indiscretions were made public.
Woods took the services of Sean Foley at the end of 2009, when his swing started showing signs of degradation. The Canadian took the responsibility of fixing Woods swing and faced a lot of criticism from the media. Despite all the
debate swirling around Woods, Foley did not lose his cool until criticism put forward by Woods former coach, Hank Haney.
Foley called Haney unprofessional and further added, “There was nothing about what he was doing in his previous swing that made any sense to me.” In response to the remarks, Haney replied on a social networking site, Twitter, “If you
want to be entertained go to Golf.com and read Sean Foley's latest version of ripping Hank Haney. All I can say is 'wow'.” In addition to that, he commented on a tweet made by his follower, who wrote, “Sean Foley = clueless” stating, “He is sure he has the
answers and no one else does.”
Haney, who helped Woods win six major titles, blamed Woods personal life as the cause behind his fall from grace. Whereas, Foley who has been more of a friend to the former world-number one, protected Woods and constantly reminded
people that the golfer has had enough criticism.
Foley appeared in front of Golf Canada to clear up the mess and told them the whole story. He said that he had been working with the 35-year-old Woods after he confronted the world regarding all the scandals that were surrounding him.
Therefore, the reason behind the fall was not him. Moreover, he emphasised that Woods had gone through a tough period and required the support of people around him rather than constant finger pointing.
He added that the controversies are hindering Woods and the improvements he has made. He has once again been dragged into a controversy, which is only creating a distraction for. Meanwhile, when asked the reason behind the sluggish
attitude in choosing the number of tournaments for the season, Woods did not mention coaches controversy. Rather, he named his family life as the basic culprit.
Woods said that his children were his prime priority and hence he had a carefully selected schedule, which let him spend more time at home rather at the course. However, this does not mean that the world-number three will not be playing
in the Cadillac Championship. The veteran is all geared up and ready to face the top 49 players of the world including Masters Champion Phil Mickelson and US Open winner Graeme McDowell. Martin Kaymer will tee off with Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, while Woods
will pair up with McDowell and Mickelson.
