Sean Foley backs Tiger Woods against critics
Tiger Woods’ swing coach, Sean Foley believes that the scorned former world number one will catch up with the lost form, after resting during the US Open, which is about to hit the Congressional Golf Club on June 9-11, 2011.
Foley said this while giving an interview to a local newspaper in United States on Wednesday.
“He's doing the right thing. A lot of people in golf are selfish, and this is affecting them and making them upset. This is about my buddy who has taken responsibility. I'm proud to see that he has realized this is the best thing
to do. It's frustrating in the short term, but the big picture is much better,” he said.
Foley gave this statement in response to all the controversies taking toll since Woods pulled out of the US Open, owing to his lingering knee injury. Critics started pouring in statement after statement about Woods’ career coming
to an end. As a result, Foley decided to step in the scenario and clear all sorts of rumours.
He also gave several examples of other sports personalities, who are injured, while playing. He said that injury was part of the package that brought success, trophies and fame.
Foler went on to add, “You look at the sidelines in the Stanley Cup and NBA championship and there are a lot of guys who would like to play and would be hurt. Anyone at the highest levels of sport is overusing their bodies too
much.”
According to Foley, Woods had been working really hard to bring his game back into form and it was this stress that engraved injury. Touching the topic of Woods’ potential, the coach said he was one of the finest golfers in the
world and no one should under estimate his potential. He said Woods was a legend and whoever didn't believe in his revival was crazy, as he was bound to make a comeback.
Woods pulled out of the Players Championship, after he re-injured his knee and cramped his Achilles tendon, while taking a shot on the first hole at the front. Recently, he also announced that he's pulling out of the US Open, a
tournament he has won thrice in his career.
