Sean Foley discusses Tiger Woods’ lacunae which caused him to slid in the Masters
Tiger Woods’ swing coach Sean Foley came under the limelight yet again after Woods’ phenomenal miss at the Masters this year and gave an insight in to what actually went wrong right after his win at Arnold Palmer Invitational a fortnight ago.
Woods, who was touted as one of the strongest contenders at Augusta National this year, lost with a huge margin and was seen kicking his club in desperation.
He finished for joint 40th, his lowest finish in the Masters, a title he has gone over to win for a whooping four times.
Foley said, “Alignment and posture was really the main thing. Once that changes, you can have the best swing in the world, but it doesn’t matter. When you get too far away from the ball and his pelvis is losing its tilt the shoulders get turning too level
in the back swing and the hips go into early extension on the downswing so the club got stuck under”.
Woods took another strange step followed his colossal loss at the Masters and his agent Mark Steinberg revealed a few days ago that Woods will not be attending the pre-tournament media conference and instead will be releasing a video where he will answer
the questions of his fans through the social media.
Reflecting upon his performance in the Masters, Woods admitted that he struggled with his ball-striking abilities.
He said, “At the Masters I was kind of struggling with my ball-striking a little bit. Sean (Foley) and I have worked on it”.
This is the first time Woods will be returning to mainstream golf after the Masters at the Wells Fargo Championship and is hoping to test some more lethal changes in his swing.
Foley has been criticised for his decision to change Woods’ swing, something which helped the former world number one land 14-major titles in his career.
Foley, at the start of his tenure with Woods, insisted that Wood’s former coach Hank Haney had disabled few aspects of Woods swing, not allowing him to benefit from them.
He vowed to change Woods’ swing for the better, something which has not happened as yet.
