Sean Mahoney clinches Men’s 200m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Sean Mahoney of USA clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The American swimmer stifled hopes of his opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline and made his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal. He stayed in a comfortable lead over his opponents from the start and paved his way towards the finishing
wall for the title.
With his relentless efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Mahoney sprinted his way towards the wall for the title with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.11 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Viatcheslav Sinkevich of Russia, who was 0.95 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for silver medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.06 seconds.
Sinkevich was trailed by Marco Koch of Germany, who stayed 0.33 seconds away from overpowering his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.39 seconds.
Koch was chased by Anton Lobanov of Russia, who stayed 0.19 seconds behind and tapped the wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 06.58 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Biaorong Gu of China, who was one and a half body length slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.05 seconds.
Gu was traced by Vladislav Finochenko of Russia, who stayed 0.97 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.02 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Oleg Kostin of Russia, who was 0.35 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 09.37 seconds.
Kostin remained 1.93 seconds faster from Valerii Dymo of Ukraine, who was unable to upset any of his competitors and ended his race in eighth place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 11.30 seconds.
In addition, Mahoney was happy with his gold finish in the race and collected medal for his alluring effort at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
