Sean Mahoney clinches Men’s 200m breaststroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Sean Mahoney of USA clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day one of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The American swimmer showed no mercy to his challengers in the distant breaststroke discipline and showed his urgency towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his immaculate efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Mahoney enjoyed a considerable lead over his opponents and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.17 seconds.
The champion was chased by Christian Sprenger of Australia, who was 0.81 seconds apart and reached the finishing wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 06.98 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Jeremy Meyer of Australia, who was 1.74 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 08.72 seconds.
Meyer was traced by Lennard Bremer of Australia, who was one and a half body length behind and settled on the finishing wall as fourth position holder by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.37 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was secured by Mitchell Donaldson of New Zealand, who stayed more than four seconds slower and appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.69 seconds.
Similarly, Donaldson remained 1.29 seconds ahead of Adam Peaty of Great Britain, who occupied sixth position of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.98 seconds.
Peaty was followed by Chien Yin Lionel Khoo of Singapore, who was 0.23 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and concluded his race in seventh place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 16.21 seconds.
Following that, Bryan Chiew of Singapore was disqualified from the playoff due to an improper turn and was unable to secure any position.
In addition, Mahoney was received a huge round of applause from the audience for his exhausting efforts and expressed that he would try hard to continue the same in forthcoming events.
