Sean Mahoney overwhelms Men’s 200m breaststroke heats – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Sean Mahoney of USA overwhelmed the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m breaststroke on day one of the sixth stop of FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2, 2012.
Mahoney lived up to the expectations of his supporters as he proved his eligibility for the fastest qualification spot of the race.
Mahoney’s opponents capitulated in the distant breaststroke discipline as he showed no signs of slowing down and proved his mettle for top position. He stayed nearly a body length faster from his closest swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes
and 09.93 seconds.
Mahoney was chased by Weijia Liu, who stayed 0.82 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.75 seconds.
Liu was chased by Shuai Wang, who stayed only a stroke away from overpowering his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end as third best finisher with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.13 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Tomas Klobucnik of Slovakia, who was 0.48 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.61 seconds.
Similarly, Klobucnik enjoyed a benefit of half body length over Zhi Xie, who transpired on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 2 minutes 12.12 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was secured by Junjie Ma, who stayed 0.82 seconds behind and cruised his way towards the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 12.94 seconds.
Ma was trailed by Yunkun Huang of China, who stayed 1.17 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 14.11 seconds for seventh place.
Huang was traced by Bing-Rong Cai, who was lucky enough to book last qualification spot of the event as he secured eighth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 14.39 seconds.
In addition, Mahoney was delighted with his top finish in the event and told that he would struggle hard to continue the same in playoff.
