Sean Mahoney pockets Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Sean Mahoney of USA pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on opening day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The American swimmer dictated terms to his opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline and cruised his way towards the wall for the crown.
With his impeccable pace, Mahoney faced no trouble from his opponents in the eight-lap discipline and surfaced on the wall for gold medal by producing a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 06.38 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Zhi Xie, who was nearly 1.80 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end as second best finisher by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 08.12 seconds.
Xie was chased by Weijia Liu, who stayed more than a half body length behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.99 seconds.
The third position holder was traced by Tomas Klobucnik of Slovakia, who was 0.56 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as fourth finest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 09.55 seconds.
Subsequently, Klobucnik remained 2.22 seconds ahead of Junjie Ma, who ended his swim in fifth best place and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.77 seconds.
Ma was followed by Shuai Wang, who tried hard to improve his position but failed to match MA’s pace in the final lap. Wang remained 0.69 seconds slower from MA and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 12.46 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Bing-Rong Cai, who remained 0.74 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.20 seconds.
Similarly, Cai enjoyed an advantage of 1.73 seconds over Yunkun Huang of China, who finished his race in eighth place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 14.93 seconds.
Furthermore, Mahoney was contented with his top finish in the event and stressed that he would continue his hard work to accomplish the same at forthcoming events.
