Sean Mahoney secures Men’s 200m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Sean Mahoney of USA secured gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on foremost day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The American swimmer lived up to the expectations of his followers by dominating the playoff of the distant breaststroke. With his impeccable start, he gained a marginal lead over his challengers and cruised his way throughout the race for gold medal.
He continued his gruelling efforts throughout the eight-lap race and surfaced on the wall for gold medal by producing a wonderful effort of 2 minutes and 04.55 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Henrique Barbosa of Brazil, who was 1.65 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 06.20 seconds.
Barbosa was trailed by Marco Koch, who remained 0.64 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.84 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Tomas Klobucnik, who stayed considerably slower from his former finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.02 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Laurent Carnol, who was 0.45 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and appeared on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.47 seconds.
Carnol was traced by David Verraszto of Hungary, who remained only 0.03 seconds behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 10.50 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Jonas Coreelman of Belgium, who was only 0.01 seconds behind and reported a time of 2 minutes and 10.51 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Tony Wiegmann, who was 1.40 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.91 seconds.
In addition, Mahoney expressed happiness over his victory in the breaststroke discipline and said that he would try to please his fans by achieving the same in upcoming international events.
