Sean Malto to miss first stop of Street League Skateboarding due to surgery
The street skating maestro, Sean Malto, will not be competing in the first stop of the Street League Skateboarding contest series that kicks off this weekend at the Key Arena in Seattle. The action sport athlete had a knee surgery recently, but a failure
to completely recover forced him to make the announcement of his absence from the first of the three stops.
While talking to a journalist of a leading sports network on Thursday, the 21-year-old said, “I underwent surgery on my meniscus on April 18 on my left knee. It was a minor surgery but still puts me out for six-to-eight weeks. Unfortunately I won't be able
to skate in the first Street League in Seattle, but I'll be there to support all my friends that can skate.”
The finals of the first stop of Street League Skateboarding will be held on Sunday, May 8.
The Kansas City-based professional skater is one of the hot favourites to perform well in the current edition of Rob Dyrdek's Street League. Even though he will be missing out the first stop, he is expected to make a strong impact in the remaining three
stops of the Street League events.
With some of the best street skateboarders competing in the event, all the stops are expected to feature an intense action-packed battle. One cannot afford to be less than 100 percent if he wishes to walk away with the win. That pretty much explains why
Malto has chosen to give his knee more time to heal and become completely fit before making his way to the battlefield.
According to him, he will be healthy enough to get in the competitive scene by the time Street League reaches Kansas City, Missouri, for the second stop. “I should be able to skate in the Kansas City and Glendale Street Leagues so I'm looking forward to
those contests.”
The second stop of the Street League is scheduled to kick off from June 11 while the finals will be taking place two days later on June 12. That will give ample time for the pro skater to recover and warm up on the skateboard before getting in the fight
for the title.
Last year, he had managed to emerge triumphant in the second stop of the Street League in Ontario, California. The year 2010 also saw Malto give an impressive performance in the Maloof Money Cup in New York and the Copenhagen Pro, finishing in third place
in both the contests.
The 21-year-old skater has been making quite an impact in the world of skateboarding for quite a while now. He won the Rookie of the Year title in 2009 by a leading skateboarding magazine and has been featured in numerous skateboarding videos over the past
few years.
Even though he is missing out on the first contest, he will definitely be in the title race if he managed to do well in the next three stops.
