Sean O’Hair wins play-off against Kris Blanks to lift RBC Canadian Open trophy
Sean O’Hair ended the sudden death play-off match with a bogey to lift his fourth Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour trophy on Sunday. The RBC Canadian Open took place on the par-70 Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, Canada.
The 29-year-old Texan compiled an aggregate of four-under-par in the four-day session for a tie with Kris Blanks in regulation. As decided by the officials of the tournament, the duo walked towards the par-4 18th hole to decide the fate of the
competition.
O’Hair went off first and drove the tee shot onto the left side of the fairway. The ball flipped a few paces and rolled into the deep rough on the same side. Next went Blanks, who emulated the shot to target the left side of the fairway, but also became
the victim of the rolling fairway.
In an urge to retrieve the ball from the thick rough, O’Hair walked towards the targeted area and chipped the ball out with the help of a wedge. The shot worked, but the ball stopped 50 yards away from the green. The American reached the putting surface
in four shots and tapped the ball in for a bogey.
On the other hand, Blanks aimed for the green, while standing at a distance of 200 yards on the left rough of the fairway. The shot plunged the entire fairway as he planned, but bounced off into the greenside bunker on the right. Blanks chipped from the
sand bunker and managed to surface the green, but the ball rolled past the cup and landed once again on the fringe. The player putted for a bogey and missed, hence accepting his defeat against O’Hair.
Teary at the sudden win, O’Hair said, “I don't know what to say - it's been a humbling year. Jackie I love you. It's been a tough road - I've had a lot of people help me. You appreciate the blessings you have. Sometimes when you are playing well you take
that good playing for granted. It's not easy out here. To win out here and play well is difficult. I've just learned to appreciate it when I'm playing well.”
With this victory, O’ Hair has banked on $926,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points, taking him to the 143rd spot on the money list.
