Sean Pamphilon says NFL asked him to hand over Gregg Williams audio tapes - NFL News
The release of ex-New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams audio tape where he extorts his players to injure opponents has opened a can of worms for National Football League (NFL) investigators.
Williams in the tape is heard telling his players in a team meeting before the Saints faced the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round, to go out and target the concussions and ACL injuries of their opponents.
Sean Pamphilon a filmmaker who made the recording and released it to a shocked public, told
Yahoo! Sports on Sunday that the league had contacted him and asked for the tapes as they continue their investigations into player involvement in the scandal.
The audio tape remains the strongest evidence of the bounty scandal and showed how the entire operation was run.
Pamphilon said.
"NFL security called (four) times Friday. They want Gregg Williams tapes."
Williams in the tape tells his players to target the head of 49ers wide receiver, Kyle Williams and also to put hits on running back Frank Gore.
Pamphilon has come under criticism by many circles for releasing the audio to the public and breaking his agreement with former Saints player Steve Gleason who did not authorise revealing the tapes contents.
However, the filmmaker remains adamant that he had every right to release the contents and he did the right thing by showing the public what the bounties actually sounded like.
“If this story hadn't broken and been made public, I would not have shared this. I would not have compromised my personal relationships and risked damaging Steve Gleason's relationship with the Saints.”
Williams career in the NFL is all but over after the release of the tapes and he remains indefinitely suspended from ever coaching a professional football team.
The league is yet to announce the punishments to be handed out to the 22-27 players it alleged to be involved in the scandal which ran for three seasons.
The NFL has already suspended, New Orleans Saints head coach, Sean Payton for a year while also giving general manager, Mickey Loomis, and assistant coach, Joe Vitt suspensions of eight and six games respectively.
