Sean Rodriguez shines as Tampa Bay battle past Boston Red Sox 4-3 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays continued to assert their dominance in American League as they beat Boston Red Sox 4-3 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 27 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Joe Maddon and company looked to attack their rivals right from the start of the contest and Ben Zobrist grounded out to first in the fourth inning to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Will Rhymes had an excellent time on the plate as he went 3 for 3 in a nail biting thriller. He singled to left centre in the seventh and Sean Rodriguez scored the second run for Tampa Bay.
Boston showed great determination, fighting spirit and desire to win as Adrian Gonzalez struck a three run home run to bring his team right back into the contest.
With momentum on their side, it seemed the Red Sox were on their way to secure a tremendous win but Rodriguez’s hit a home run to left in the ninth as the fate denied the Red Sox a superb series victory. It will be interesting to see if Tampa Bay can continue their excellent form to put themselves in a governing position before the All Star Break.
"We're a lot of fun when we win," Rays manager Joe Maddon said with a smiling face in a post game interview.
"Something like that," Rodriguez said, giving an impression that the was going to party hard and long. "Every team wants to win. We just want to remember how much fun it is."
"We know exactly how they feel after last night," Maddon further added. "It's not a good feeling."
Of course, the Red Sox will be disappointed to be on the losing side. However, considering what the Rays have been able to achieve this season (29-19), they will be proud of the way they fought throughout the series.
With little bit more luck on their side, the Red Sox could have gone over the .500 win percentage mark for the first time this season. Unfortunately for them, the Rays handled the pressure situations absolutely brilliantly to steal a memorable win.
