Search for North Carolina’s next Athletics director goes on
Selecting the final candidate for North Carolina’s Athletics department has become a daunting task for the authorities concerned. In an attempt to find out the most suitable person for the job, the department has so far had seven 27.5 hours long meetings
for the past 6.5 weeks. However, it seems that the body still needs to go a long way.
On the first day of this week, the committee responsible for selecting the director for the North Carolina’s Athletics department had another 2.5 hours long closed session. The motive or agenda of the meeting was to shortlist candidates from the many interviewed
during the last few weeks.
After coming up with its final decision, the committee will recommend those names to Holden Thorp, the chancellor of the university, who is supposed to take the final decision in this regard.
While providing the details, Lowry Caudill, the chairman of the search committee said, “We’re still data-gathering. It’s where we hoped we would be at this point. We’re not deadline-driven. We still have work to do as a committee, so we’re not finished.”
The chairman informed that the next meeting was scheduled to happen on October 19. Caudill said that they were considering everyone who had applied for the post so far. However, he also made it clear that the process was still open and anyone interested
in making an entry could still apply.
The only development marked in yesterday’s meeting was that it was also attended by Thorp who wanted to brief himself about the procedures and the proceedings of the committee. Caudill said that all what Thorp had asked them to do was to list down all the
strength and weaknesses of the potential candidates.
He commented that we are, “Very pleased in the quality of the candidates, we are very comfortable with where we are, and we feel good about the slate that will eventually go to the chancellor. So we feel like we can only make a good decision.” Once the candidate
for the post is selected, s/he will be replacing d**k Baddour who has now chosen to retire after rendering his services for 14 long years.
