The Los Angeles Times has an excellent archive service, but you hae to pay for it (cost depends on how many articles you want to purchase). Just go their website and click search archives. It is very user friendly.

You might also want to try Newspaperarchives.com. They had literrally hundreds of newspapers on line, going back well over 100 years. You can not only narrow your search by name or topic, but also by state.
