In the latest issue of Romantic Country (pg.34-35) there is a living room painted a pale golden yellow. Does anyone have any idea what this color might be or another pretty pale gold for a more shabby look?

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

"Restrained Gold" (# 6129) is a very popular color. Check it out on these real rooms:

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like

  2. There is a paint you get at Lowes called Valspar Brillaint Metals Gold.

I used this on my boutique walls and it turns out VERY gold (think 24 karat gold). The trick is, you have to paint a disgusting yellow base color before you can paint the gold over it. Depending on the intensity of the gold you desire, which sounds pretty light from your question, you can buy lighter shades of yellow to paint under it.

My suggestion is getting a very light yellow or beige-yellow to paint under if you want a very light gold.

ALSO: The paint guy at Lowes will give you a hard time about mixing the color because he'll say "well, you have to get both". YOU DON'T. If you just walk up and grab the paint can and buy it, they can't give you trouble. Their job is to sell you the most expensive paint. I had no idea you were supposed to do a base coat (to get the effect on the brochure). I didn't want it that gold, but the guy pressured me into getting both. I just wanted just a gold wash color myself.

If all you want is a light gold sheen, get the one I'm linking to. It will look amazing, even over a plain white wall.

    Good luck!
