Question:

Searching for value of books?

I'm sort of a recent bibliophile and I've recently started collecting books. I've always purchased books to own and read for my own pleasure, but now I've started a hobby of collecting and selling valuable books for profit. I know what books to look for and everything, I just have to look and know what I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is sort of the problem. I don't know how to find the actual price of certain books. Any suggestions? Thanks

  1. I usually search for the book on Amazon or similar websites. There you will find the 'new' price, as well as the 'used' prices. It's a pretty good indication.

If you've got some antique or older books, you could always drop by a bookstore (which would sell them too) and ask them what the value is. They might even buy some of your books!

Also, if it's a book on something like Star Wars or another 'collectible' thing, check out some of the fan's forums. You might be able to find a buyer there, or at least some people who will know what value to put on the book!

  2. Advanced search on ebay, narrowing it down to closed auctions. You can also check the rare books sites and Amazon. However, be aware that an asking price does not necessarily determine worth. You want to see what is closed and sold, for an accurate estimate of worth.
