  1. i used to be a photographer for Olan Mills and had a number of babies that didn't want to be there.. we would make do and if we could get the baby calm even for just a second we put them down and snap.. I did this with one baby in particular and she was so tired from crying she stretched her arms out and was yawning and I had accidentally pushed the button to take the pic and it was the cutest pic I had ever seen I sent an 8x10 free to the mom just because of how cute it was and they LOVED it

  2. I think it would be okay.  They are really experienced with dealing with children that aren't in the greatest mood.  My daughter really needed a nap when we were getting our family photo's done and my oldest daughter didn't want to be in any of the pictures her sister was in.  It was stressful, but we got a surprisingly good number of shots!

If your calm and relaxed it will transfer to baby.  If you're anxious and stressed the baby will be too!

    Good luck!

  3. I am photographer for Sears Portrait Studio who is currently on mat. leave, and I have met and worked with many babies. If things haven't changed in the past few months, the studios have what is called Picture Perfect Promise, which guarantees your photos.

If you schedule an appointment in advance and the day of your appointment you find that your daughter is having a bad day, you can call the studio and they will gladly change the time and/or day of your appointment. If you get to the studio and she is very unhappy, than most, if not all of the photographers are very patient and understanding and will give you the opportunity to feed, change, soothe, walk around with her, whatever it takes for her to be calm. We do know how to make a lot of silly noises and actions, as well as calm and reassuring noises, to try and grab the babies attention just long enough to get a beautiful portrait. If nothing is working out, do not be afraid to tell this to the photographer and ask if the session can be rescheduled. At our studio we never charged a fee for this.

Another thing that may work for you, if you do decide to bring your daughter to a portrait studio, is to understand that babies will not always smile for their first portraits. A lot of beautiful portraits are taken of infants when they make the most unexpected faces or even while they are sleeping!

Best of luck to you, and hope I was able to offer you some reassurance.

  4. I just had my daughters pictures taken there, and while she doesn't have colic, she did decide it was the perfect time to cry...and cry...and cry...and cry. The lady waited almost an hour to let my daughter settle down, eat, get a diaper change, and then get ready for the pictures. And the pictures turned out beautiful!!

  5. Sears Portrait studio were not helpful at all with my daughter who was also colic. I'm sure Sears is great but the lady working was not helping or even trying to help my daughter. She kind of just stood there and told us to come back at a different day. Canadian Baby Photography were absolutely amazing with my daughter and we had her done at 6 weeks. I am so happy we got her pictures  done with them.

  6. Hello :)

I Monday, I just took Portraits of my son at Sears. The process took less than 1/2 hour. I believe how the employees are trained and certified, that they can help you and your baby with his/her first portraits. They have various positions and techniques to make this an easy process for baby.

If I may suggest...think about purchasing their CD, you could get all the photos taken, including the ones you didn't like. Purchase a small portrait package. And when your photo CD comes in, perhaps take it to another place to print at a lower cost. And be prepared for their up sale questions :)

    Good luck!

  7. My brother had colic and it was horrible. I feel for you. However, I know with him that he usually fussed the most from 5-7pm. The rest of the day he was usually pretty good. If your baby has a period of time when they're less colicy, make your appointment for then. Also, I know that my brother stopped his colic at 3 months, which is the age most babies stop. You could just wait another month until she's outgrown her colic to get the pictures taken.
