Season Review Week 1-7: Denver Broncos – Part II
Question marks were raised about Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning’s arm strength after the disappointing performance he delivered in week two against the Falcons.
The quarterback faced some more tough tests in the upcoming games as he faced the Houston Texans in week three followed by AFC West division rivals Oakland Raiders in week four.
Week 3: Against Houston Texans
The Broncos faced a tough task against the Texans who were on a two-game winning run and boasted one of the best defensive units in the NFL.
Denver on the other hand had just lost its first game of the season at the Falcons and needed a win but they were immediately put under pressure by the Texans who ramped up a 21-11 lead at the end of the first half.
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was in brilliant form throwing three touchdown passes in the first half while he further increased Houston’s lead in the third quarter with his fourth touchdown pass of the game.
The Broncos were down 31-11 and had to make up a huge gap of 20 points in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Manning had made many memorable comebacks during his 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and he tried to do the same in this game passing for two touchdowns in the final quarter to bring Denver just one scoring play from winning the game with three minutes to go.
It seemed like the veteran quarterback will once again overcome the Texans against whom he had a great record during his time with the Colts.
However, it wasn’t to be as the Texans held off the Broncos attempts to complete the comeback and sent them to a second straight defeat.
Week 4: Against Oakland Raiders
The Denver Broncos had lost two games straight and faced AFC West rivals Oakland Raiders in week four.
However, Denver could not have asked for a much easier night as the Raiders never looked to challenge Denver’s dominance.
Quarterback Peyton Manning secured one of his easiest wins thanks to a brilliant display by the Broncos secondary which allowed the Raiders just two first half field goals for the entire game.
Manning passed for three touchdowns as the Broncos built up their lead massively in the final two quarters of the game and completed an easy 37-6 win to end their losing streak.
The Broncos were back to winning ways and looked a solid team heading into a week five clash against AFC Champions New England Patriots.
