Season Review Week 1-7: Denver Broncos – Part III
With a big win over the Oakland Raiders in week four, the Denver Broncos faced two tough tests before heading into the bye week in week seven.
The Broncos faced the New England Patriots in week five before facing the San Diego Chargers in week six with both games on the road.
Week 5: At New England Patriots
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady have faced off in some massive games over the years during their long and illustrious careers.
However, this was the first time that these two great players of our generation faced each other after an entire season.
Manning during his time with the Indianapolis Colts had mostly struggled to better Brady head-to-head when they met on the field and it proved true once again with his new team as the Broncos were convincingly defeated 31-21 by the Patriots.
New England Patriots ramped up a 31-14 lead at the end of the third quarter and even with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning tried hard to launch a comeback bid in the final quarter, Denver were held back by a strong Patriots defence.
Manning delivered a brilliant individual performance passing for three touchdowns but it wasn’t enough as the Patriots never were put under much pressure and their huge lead proved too much to cut back for Denver.
Week 6: At San Diego Chargers
With a defeat to the New England Patriots another tough fixture cropped up for the Broncos as they faced the San Diego Chargers.
The Chargers encouraged by a big home crowd did not give any quarter to the Broncos as they completely dominated proceedings in the first half and shut out Denver and quarterback Peyton Manning.
Down 24-0 it looked like game over for the Broncos as the Chargers defence did not look ready to give any chances.
However, these are the exact kind of games for which Denver picked up Peyton Manning.
The veteran four-time MVP quarterback reminded everyone why he is still one of the best in the game with a brilliant second half display mounting and completing an unlikely comeback.
Manning passed for three touchdowns in the second half while Tony Carter’s fumble return and Chris Harris’ interception return turned the game on its head.
The Broncos won after coming back from 24-0 to win the game 35-24 with an epic display of determination and drive.
