Season Review Week 1-7: Green Bay Packers – Part III
Two wins and two losses from their opening four games the Green Bay Packers were struggling for consistency.
Poor refereeing decisions cost the franchise an important game while they luckily avoided losing another due to poor decisions by the officials.
In this final part we will review the games played by Green Bay in week 5-7.
Week 5: At Indianapolis Colts
The Green Bay Packers visited Lucas Oil Stadium in week five to face the new look Indianapolis Colts.
They were in for a big shock though as number one draft pick Andrew Luck combined brilliantly Reggie Wayne to stun the Packers as he led a late rally to give the Packers their third defeat of the season.
Green Bay had started brightly as they dominated proceedings in the first half to build up a 21-3 lead over the Colts.
However, Luck rallied the Colts in the second half.
The Colts scored 16 unanswered points in the third quarter to move within two points of Green Bay and took a one point lead early in the fourth quarter after kicker Adam Vinatieri scored a 28-yard field goal.
Rodgers returned the Packers to the lead sending an eight yard pass to wide receiver James Jones to make it 27-22 but the Colts were not done yet.
Luck combined with Wayne on a four-yard touchdown pass with just seconds left to win the game 30-27 and send Green Bay to their third defeat of the season.
Week 6: At Houston Texans
With another defeat to their name, Green Bay now had to face the unbeaten Houston Texans in week six.
The Texans boasted one of the best defensive units in the league and were the favourites in this game since Green Bay’s offence was not performing to its usual high standards.
However, the Texans were in for a rude awakening as Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers once again found his spark to completely decimate Houston.
Rodgers threw six touchdown passes in this game and no interceptions as Green Bay’s offence delivered brilliantly to route Houston 42-24 and end their unbeaten run.
Houston never had the lead once and their offence was stopped right in its tracks as Green Bay turned on the style.
Week 7: At St. Louis Rams
With a brilliant display against the Texans, Green Bay next travelled to St. Louis to face the Rams.
They once again delivered a textbook performance much to the delight of the huge Packers travelling contingent that followed the team to St. Louis.
Rodgers delivered another brilliant performance and it seems the quarterback has regained the form that saw him named the league’s MVP last year.
The quarterback threw three touchdown passes as Green Bay never gave a chance to the Rams.
Taking the lead in the first quarter, the Packers never looked back and maintained their dominance throughout the game.
The Rams were completely shackled and never much troubled the Packers who enjoyed a comfortable 30-20 win.
This was the first time that Green Bay has put together consecutive victories this year and their record now stands at 4-3.
The Packers look to be hitting their stride at just the right time and are back in contention for the NFC North Division title.
