Season Review Week 1-7: New England Patriots – Part III
Ending their two-game losing streak in week four, the Patriots had restored their confidence and were pumped up for the visit of the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning to the Gillette Stadium in week five.
Manning and New England quarterback, Tom Brady are two of best quarterbacks to ever grace the National Football League (NFL) and this encounter had all the hype as these two giants of the game collided against each other.
Week 5: Against Denver Broncos
Brady has usually always come out the winner whenever he faced Manning during his time with the Indianapolis Colts and even though Manning arrived with his new team the result remained the same.
New England Patriots and Brady wasted no time in building up a lead over their opponents and were up by 10 points at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter the Patriots increased their advantage further with two rushing touchdowns from Brady and Stevan Ridley to put the franchise up 31-7.
The Broncos though were not ready to give up so easily and Manning tried to start a comeback connecting from two yards with receiver Eric Decker to make it 31-14.
With six minutes to go in the fourth quarter Manning once again threw another touchdown pass this time to Brandon Stokley from five yards to peg back the Patriots lead to just 10 points.
However, their comeback attempt was stopped right there.
New England had won two games in a row for the first time this year taking their record to 3-2.
Week 6: At Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks boasted the best defence in the league when they faced the New England Patriots who themselves had the most intimidating offence in the game.
This epic clash between an immovable object and an unstoppable force was upstaged by a rookie quarterback.
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson stunned the New England Patriots helping his team to come from behind to win the game.
The Seahawks looked out of the game by the end of the third quarter as the Patriots built up a 10-point lead.
New England further improved the lead to 13 points with an early field goal in the final quarter and there seemed no way back for the Seahawks in this one.
However, the Patriots had not counted on Russell Wilson to ruin their day.
Wilson sparked the comeback sending a 10-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards at the seven minute mark to bring the Seahawks just one scoring play away from a win.
Wilson provided just that as in the final two minutes he lobbed a huge 46-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice who made no mistake as the Seahawks won 24-23.
The Patriots had lost their third game of the season and things once again turned bleak.
Week 7: Against New York Jets
With their biggest rivals from the AFC East division visiting in week seven and the lead of the division at stake the New England Patriots just could not lose another game.
They didn’t but they did not make it easy for themselves either as the Patriots wasted a host of chances to secure victory and once again let a 10-point third quarter lead slip from their grasp.
The franchise were up 23-13 at the end of the third quarter but the Jets mounted a comeback late in the final quarter taking a three-point lead with just a little more than a minute to spare.
Brady though marched the Pats up into field goal range in the dying seconds and kicker Stephen Gostkowski made no mistake tying the game with a 43 yard field goal.
In overtime the Patriots once again turned to Gostkowski who this time scored a 48-yard field goal to help New England defeat their rivals.
