Season ends for Denver Broncos’ Knowshon Moreno after knee injury – NFL News
Denver Broncos' have developed problems in the backfield in Sunday’s game against the Chiefs as backup Knowshon Moreno had to leave the field with a right knee injury. Despite a 17-10 victory over the Chiefs, Broncos excitement remained contained as the injury toll kept mounting.
That was the news then for Sunday. The latest on Moreno is that his season has come to an end. He will no longer be there on the field for the remainder of the year. The right knee which he had injured showed signs of wear and tear and will need to undergo a surgery. An MRI showed that he had a sprained ligament. Broncos Head Coach John Fox confirmed that Moreno needed a surgery but was encouraging for Moreno.
"He's tough-minded and he'll battle back from it," Fox said for Moreno whose injury he had earlier called a sprain.
The situation has been tough for Moreno who earlier sustained a hamstring injury. Moreno managed to get back in the game against the Chiefs but messed up again in pileup as he was tackled after having run for 22-yards in the opening quarter of the game. Moreno managed to carry the ball four times for 56 yards in the game.
The Broncos now have Jeremiah Johnson in to replace Moreno. Johnson will be part of the team against the New York Jets on Thursday night. Fox seemed pretty confident that Johnson was a good choice.
"He knows the nomenclature, knows the teammates," Fox said. "He's been giving our defence a real good look (in practice), been helpful in getting us better against the run."
Broncos face other problems too. Willis McGahee has a hamstring problem though Fox is hopeful he would be available by Thursday. McGahee had injured his hamstring during Sunday’s game and missed the remainder of the game. Though McGahee seems okay now, Fox did not seem prepared to take the risk of inducting him immediately into the team.
"He was cleared to come back into the game. But we weren't going to put him in there unless it was an emergency situation," Fox said. "In part, to have him ready for this Thursday."
