Season ends for Lions’ RB Jahvid Best, placed on injured reserve list – NFL News
Detroit Lions have confirmed that injured running back Jahvid Best is out for the season after being placed on the injured reserve list. Best has failed in his battle to recover fully from a concussion.
Lions Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed the news on Friday saying, "From the outset, we have been appropriately cautious and have followed all medical protocol with respect to Jahvid's injury," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "We look
forward to his continued improvement and eventual return to the field."
Best’s agent Tony Fleming considers the placement of his client on IR a precautionary measure telling reporters "Definitely expect him to be back next year," Fleming said. "Being put on IR is more precautionary because he's continuing
to see specialists, and he's just being evaluated still. It seems to be in the best interests to sit him for the season.
The news comes at a bad time for Lions fans after they witnessed their team losing to undefeated Green Bay Packers 27-15 on Thanksgiving Day at home.
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh got ejected from the field during the game in the third quarter following a vicious stomp on Packers Guard Evan Dietrich-Smith an event considered by many to give Packers the opportunity to build
up a healthy lead and win the game comfortably.
Lions also lost running back Kevin Smith to an ankle sprain in the second quarter of the game and backup for the position is running thin with only Keiland Williams and Maurice Morris remaining the only two fit players.
If Smith fails to recover for next Sunday’s game, Lions might bring in a replacement running back for the short-term.
Best was in fine form starting the first six games of Lions season helping them win five games out of six. He covered 390 yards and scored two touchdowns with a sensational 84 yard touchdown against Chicago Bears in game week five
taking the cake. He also added a further 287 yards on receiving and a single touchdown.
Drafted by Lions in 2010 in the first round by Detroit Lions, Best had a sensational rookie season and was set to continue his great performances in 2011 but injuries have conspired to keep one of the budding lights of NFL out
of the ground.
